Get Your Studio Art Degree
This degree provides you with many opportunities in the studio and in academic classes. You'll create, study, and experience the visual arts from diverse cultural sources, historical periods, and media. We'll work with you to demonstrate competence in a number of art and/or design techniques and establish an emphasis in at least one specific studio area with foundation-level skills.
Studio Art Program Highlights
- Our facilities include studios in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, and ceramics aimed at giving our students access to industry-standard technology, materials, equipment, and software.
- All graduating seniors are given a capstone exhibition in the Goodall Gallery.
- The art department鈥檚 faculty are regionally and nationally recognized artists and scholars.
- Our program offers numerous opportunities to take part in interdisciplinary events across the arts such as Art Club, The Criterion, and Campus Tour fo Arts.
- Applicants can submit an original portfolio to be considered for art scholarships.

Popular Studio Art Classes
- Painting I
An introduction to traditional oil painting materials and processes, with an emphasis on developing formal and expressive skills. - Photography I
An introduction to photography as a visual language with an emphasis on material, process, technique, and composition through 35mm film photography and darkroom printing. - Ceramics I
A foundational course exploring the creation of clay forms with hand-building, wheel-thrown, and glaze techniques.
Scholarships
Scholarships are based on a review of an applicant鈥檚 portfolio of original artwork. Art faculty are looking for evidence of basic skills, a strong work ethic, and a personal voice. Portfolios should include 8-10 works of the student鈥檚 choice, in a variety of media or all in one or two media.
