Cal Hilsman, LISW-CP/S, serves as the BSW Director of Field Education at ÌÇÐÄVlog and is excited to support students in their professional development throughout the program. He is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Clinical Practice and Supervision. Cal is married and the father of two young children, and he values time spent with family, reading, and being outdoors.

Cal earned his Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina in 2017. He completed his graduate field placement at the university’s Counseling and Psychiatry Center, where he provided clinical services within an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers. This experience helped shape his strong commitment to high-quality field education and ethical practice.

In his role as BSW Director of Field Education, Cal oversees student placements, collaborates with community agencies and field instructors, and supports students in integrating classroom learning with real-world social work practice. He brings extensive experience from a range of practice settings, including work with refugees, individuals with terminal illnesses, marginalized children, youth, families, and adults. He has owned and opperated Compassionate Acceptance for Life, his mental health thearpy private practice, where he specializes in helping adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, and trauma-related concerns.

Cal is deeply invested in mentoring emerging social workers and emphasizing professionalism, reflective practice, and the application of theory to practice. He is committed to helping students develop competence, confidence, and ethical decision-making skills as they prepare for professional social work careers.
