As Instructional Designer in the Office of the Provost, Online Learning, Michael partners with faculty and staff on course design, online learning initiatives, instructional technologies, and learning experiences supporting student success.

Michael was born outside Seattle and moved often growing up, finally settling in Texas, as his father served in the military throughout his career. He brings more than twelve years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and higher education, having designed and delivered learning experiences across online, hybrid, and face-to-face environments in the United States, South Korea, and Qatar. He holds a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Instructional Design and Technology, from the University of West Florida. He most recently served as an adjunct professor at Midlands Technical College, building on a career of developing course content and training faculty and students. In recent years, his focus has expanded into artificial intelligence, beginning at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Baskin School of Engineering. He holds several artificial intelligence certifications, belongs to the OpenAI Academy and the Anthropic Academy, and has received informal mentorship from employees at both companies.

He loves spending time with his wife, Lisa, daughter Kaleigh, and three dogs, Tiberius, Sassy, and Bandit. The family enjoys riding around Lake Murray in their Slingshot, and when not continuing his own education in AI, they enjoy traveling, having visited thirty nine countries and counting, including three where they lived as expatriates.
